Our first stop of the road trip was San Diego. The city in the very south of California is a wild mix of old, new, historic, and futuristic.
On the first day we did the „Old Town Trolley Tour“. The bus stops at different hot spots of the city and you can hop on or off whenever you want. First, we went to the harbor. From there you can see many fancy boats and the skyline of San Diego. Next, we drove to Coronado beach with the famous Hotel de Coronado and only 15 minutes away from Mexico. We also spend some time in the Horton Plaza Mall. At night, we ate at an Italien r restaurant in Little Italy. It looked weird from the outside, but the food was amazing and the portions huge.
On the next day, we visited Seaport Village first. There a many cute shops and the view is beautiful. Right next to it is the USS Midway and the well-known statue of a sailor kissing his wife when he returned from World War two. One thing I can definitely recommend is the Balboa Park. There are 17 different museums and the architecture is stunning. We didn’t have the time to go into the museums but just walking through the park is really nice. We also stopped by in Old Town San Diego. Supposingly, that’s where California was founded when the Spanish came. A lot of Hispanic and Native American culture. Our last stop was the nearby La Jolla beach. We were able to see seals very closely. They were adorable laying in the sand and enjoying the sun. Some of them were so young, they still had their umbilical cords.
